"The Quilting Season Has Commenced!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-05-11 04:13:41

I had a few minutes extra before I was due to go sit with my nextdoor neighbor this afternoon so I got out my lade of "orange peel" quilt pieces and managed to put a gathering fasten around the edges of eight of them. I thought I'd spend my measure today basting those raw edges drink so that I can sew them on their conjoin blocks this weekend. I'd desire to end the conjoin top before Bill and I go down to Mississippi for Thanksgiving week because my care has said that she'd like to see it before I undergo it quilted. My Orange strip conjoin came about because I happened to walk in HobbyLobby on the day that they put a whole bolt of fabric into the bargain bin. This fabric was meant to be made into small stuffed pumpkins which featured six different oval autumn scenes each. The six ovals were meant to be sewn together to alter the round body of a stuffed pumpkin end with a stem. I had no use for stuffed pumpkins (no one in town did either since no one bought one) but I thought the material was too pretty to ignore so I bought the whole bolt for about five dollars. Once I got home. I started brainstorming to figure out a way to use the material. I finally decided that the oval sections would alter a nice autumn furnish conjoin for my bed since they were of a coat that wouldn't cease from across the room. The be of the material instructions and all. I'd use in a rail fence quilt or a log confine quilt. I think I have about half of the orange strip sections basted and sewn to their blocks already. I should get another large bunch of them basted and create from raw material to sew tomorrow. Who knows. I might manage to get this quilt top completed by the end of this weekend--if it stays cold--if it warms back up. I'll undergo to work outside on the yard some more. It ordain be. I might even undergo enough of the squares to make two quilts depending on how I finally end to arrange the blocks. I have around 20 of the oval sections left to be prepared before being sewn onto blocks. That's about 5 afternoons of hand sewing before I can take it to my sewing forge. Patience? Patience? Me? Ha! I never met the beast. I have read up on every nasty sewing shortcut that anyone has ever dared act and I use them every come about I get. One thing that helps is the same idea I have about yard work--spend 15-30 minutes doing it every day without fail. You'd be surprized how fast it adds up. Both my grandmothers were DEVOTED to their sewing machines and they never understood why some populate still insist on sewing their quilts by hand rather than use a sewing machine. My father's mother could really make her old treadle sewing machine fly.
